    as god awful frustrating as they are you do have to understand that they have been the industry standard for 8 or 9 years now (and that's only counting since people gave up on netscape 4) there are countless websites, intranets and online forms out there that were coded solely for IE, including a fair amount of gov't agencies, financial institutions, etc. if microsoft did not cater to these clients it would lose it's market share completely. while that might sound fucking awesome to all of us. it would be suicide for them, so of course they are going to do everything possible to make sure that their latest and greatest browser can still display all those ancient websites.

    and if microsoft said "fuck em" and went with strict view only? who do you think would be paying for all those revisions to all those gov't websites? not microsoft that's for sure.

    it's a beast that is slowly losing it's footing, but it isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
