    I think it depends on how much of a work/family imbalance we're talking about here... both you and your wife contribute to your family unit in certain ways and whatever you won't be able to contribute anymore has to be compensated for, it's up to you to work this out with your wife really. But to me it's not as clear cut as one or the other takes precedence, I mean so far you've told me that you pretty much chose to level off your career to support your family and enable your wife to stay at home maybe it's time to give your career a little push, your happiness does depend in part on your work situation. Not to say your wife being at home taking care of business isn't a vital part of the process, I for one would rather have my wife taking care of my kids full-time but I would NEVER EVER take a shit job to enable that.
