Seems like an odd story to me. What exactly is the stock site billing him for in terms of usage? That he had them displayed on his portfolio? That would be more of a cease/desist issue with the stock company I think, not some gigantic bill.
But even still, this all seems so easily provable that it's his own work if it really is. Between digitally timestamped files and invoices or check copies for work completed, whats all the hub bub.
