I had two of these, the latter bought 3 years ago for €200, sold a year later for about the same. If you have no dslr at all, it might be a nice start. However, 3MP is a little low res, the autofocus is slow and clueless when it gets darker, ISO 400 is very grainy (especially noticeable when resolution is so low). The camera is slow (ie. when you want to browse pics) and it doesn't accept EF-S lenses (only 20D+ models and the rebels do).
I'd say, it's a seriously looking camera but you will do yourself a big favour if you add another 100 or 150 and get the Rebel XT (350D) or the 20D. With or without the box.
