Our drug war has made the mexican gangs powerful. They're supplying the illegal drugs Americans want and Americans are paying for their street wars. Legalize, tax and regulate the safer drugs and you weaken the violent gangs, supply much needed income for our struggling government and overnight create openings in our prisons that can house violent offenders for longer terms such as rapist and murderers. As a bonus, our police forces can focus on the stuff that really matters and the militarized police units (SWAT, SRU, whatever they want to call themselves) will have to cut back kicking in citizens doors and shooting elderly women and dogs. Liberty, peace and prosperity.
