    -1 light year is about miles 6 trillion miles
    -The milky way (our galaxy) would take 100,000 years at light speed to go from end to end .
    -If our solar system were a quarter then our galaxy would be the diameter of the USA
    -if our solar system was a quarter the next closet star would be two soccer fields away
    -If our galaxy were a CD the next closest galaxy would be two feet away the farthest star we can see would 8 miles away.
    - the light you see from a star is likely millions of years old
