Did anyone ever read Creative Review in the 80's? It was a whole different publication then. Really into the craft of the industry. It would feature different technicians who would give really in-depth articles about what they do. It was a great magazine then, very serious and heavyweight.
I guess Creative Review reflects the times though. Design is now so cheap and superfluous, shallow and whimsical, and so easy to make just by sitting in a chair behind a desk. So the magazine reflects that by spattering its pages with colourful eye candy and latching on to 'this month's next big thing'.
I suspect most mainstream print periodicals will die between now and 2010.
