I think we are off to a good start with the report. I appreciate the visual interest that you tried to create by having some of the type larger and in the PTI blue. Unfortunately, as you will see in ZV's notes, which I will forward shortly, you have chosen content that does not deserve the emphasis you gave it. I have looked through the document to see what else might be emphasized besides what she stressed by the use of bold and larger type in her draft; all I can recommend is the second paragraph of the Executive Summary section which starts with "Philadelphia Theatres have much to celebrate..." and the strengths and challenges in the key takeaway section. I'm not sure if this will provide enough content for the approach that you have chosen and you may need to rethink the design a bit. Although Z is not available to comment on a draft until January 5, I am willing to look at a draft or partial draft in the meantime.

I am forwarding Z 's comments, because my colleague MS and I generally agree with them. We don't object to the space at the top of the first page the way Z does, but are not sure that you will have room to keep it when you add back the byline and the heading "Executive Summary". We also don't think the second and third line of a bullet point need to be indented the way Z does.

My biggest concerns with the design are the font size and the difficulty reading figures 1-4. The report is dense with information and I think that the font size may discourage people from reading the piece. Is there any way you can increase the font size and still keep the piece to 12 pages? Is there any way there could be space between paragraphs?

I was confused by the numbering near the headings. I don't think we need that and page numbers, too. All pages should be numbered.

I printed the piece as you suggested using the good quality color printer we have at the Center. In addition to finding figures 1-4 almost impossible to read, I had some difficulty with the white lettering on the blue bars. This may not continue to be a problem if you increase the font size a bit.

Figure 4 bleeds onto the preceding page. I thought that might be a mistake. If it was a design choice, we'd like you to rethink it.

I was bothered by the lower case pr for public relations in table 6. It is consistent with the overall design for the tables, which I like, but doesn't seen appropriate for an abbreviation.

We all like the blue, but M__ and I don't like the greyish beige and hope that you will choose something else.

If it's possible to list all of the theatres included in the study on the same page, that would be terrific. If not, it's fine as is.
