when i was a little girl, i always wanted to play the double bass. my violin/flute/piano teacher put two bits of tape on the bass and said that until i could reach one with my thumb and the other with my pinky my hands were too little to play it. they never got big enough. this may be why you don't see too many women playing the double bass. they have to have man hands!
