Thanks for all the feedback. I have been scanning B&W negatives as reflective positives and inverting the image with software as a side-step, but the quality just isn't there. I probably should just get in the habit of having a lab do it.
These recommendations look great and back-up what little research I have done so far. I fear that I probably can't afford any right now, but maybe I will be able to find a good deal somewhere.
