As designers, don't we share some sort of responsibility towards the continuation of [rather than degradation of] our language?
I, for one, hate the abbreviation/bastardization of our language that is so present in todays sms world. It encourages laziness in the name of saving time [hopefully I don't need to point out the social repercussions of designing things in order for consumers/users to save two minutes of time]
