manson met dennis wilson of the beach boys after wilson had picked up 2 of the "family" girls on 2 separate occasions. wilson was apparently very interested in what manson had to say and was intrigued by how he had surrounded himself with young women.
he started bring manson around the studio and introduced him to terry melcher who, for a short period, was interested in recording manson's music.
manson was of course very antagonistic and his lyrics were violent and very dark. melcher and the wilson both decided to sever all ties with manson. manson convinces his family that melcher had ruined his chance at a music career and sends them to his house. however, melcher had recently rented out his home to roman polanski and his wife sharon tate. they were not the intended targets of the attacks.
