You completely misunderstand the spirit of regional devolution, kezza. Back when the Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish assemblies were being mooted, there as also talk of a Northern Assembly (to represent Northern England), and further regional representation. It was all about local representation, a logical pattern made possible under the EU legislature.
If the English had a viable non-Tory alternative to Labour (poor LibDems) I can assure you that the English would have voted for the 'English National Party' just as much as the Scots have done for their equivalent.
Most SNP voters, from what I understand, are merely fed up with Labour and simpy won't vote Conservative.
But hey, if you want to shit on 300 years of union sovereignty with your weird paranoia - go right ahead and boil you own head.
