save it out as sRGB, as I understand it (however limited my understanding is), most of the browsers display using sRGB. When I save out of photoshop using "Save for web and devices" the preview that photoshop serves up in the Save for web dialogue box is always washed out compared to what I was working on. However when you open the file in preview / safari / photoshop after saving for web the colours display correctly.
The profile your imac has for its display is there to make it display the colours as true as possible for that particular screen i.e. Red displays red rather than pink or orange. I custom profile the screens on my work machine once a month but my files stay in sRGB. Never use your screen profile as a document profile as that screen profile is exclusively for your LCD panel and can look terrible on another screen.
