well, i'm shooting for august. hopefully they'll be available and not backordered to hell. and yes, it'll definitely go well with the 24-70. my brother's a photographer who switched to canon a couple of years ago, and i've had a lot of fun with his 5D and 1Ds MkII and 24-70L. i've been holding off on buying a dslr for a while, but i think this has got me ready.
nikon seems to be ahead for now w/ their bodies and both companies' lenses are pretty on par with each other. so i guess i'm going with nikon. i just wish they had the superfast primes like canon's 50mm f1.2 and 85mm f1.2.
