From what I understand, they have gone on record and stated that they did borrow beats/samples/whatever from various chiptunes artists, and are actually releasing those songs as part of some chiptunes tribute album or something. Something I guess has been lost in the shuffle in the controversy...
Though I myself have yet to see this statement. A friend of mine read it on Pitchfork, which I don't go to.
As far as I can tell, not helping them is their management, who deflected all claims of theft instead of just addressing them in the beginning, which would have saved them a whole lot of trouble.
Anyhow, I wanted to check them out, so I went to their free show in Willamsburg. Was at some shitty club with a bunch of NYU drones till midnight, and they never showed. Instead we got this piece of crap act from Canada that was just horrible, so him plus the annoying crowd was why my friend and I split. They probably came on afterwards, but who cars at this point...
