let us know the number of visitors who exit your site at the registration page.
it's just not worth it to register at some sites. if there is a prize involved, people will register at the appropriate time (which is not at the beginning.)
there is nothing more harmful to your site than requiring user info before they are engaged. people simply leave, it's not worth it to them.
