I am of the same opinion as harlequino if you want something from someone you must in turn do something for them, remember the essence of the whole animation is to promote this persons own logo which he or she wants an animator to do for free, You are saying it's great for your portfolio in the same way as personal work is, not doing it for clients is fucking bollocks I got a wicked job from only my personal stuff as my day to day stuff is crap because clients like crap it's simple clients generally speaking fuck up a brilliant piece of work.
You want something for free do something in return for free.
I'm not pissed off at you by the way it seems a bit harsh but no I'm not pissed off at you :)
