Jeez, I know where you're coming from! I had a client show me a diagram he'd done in powerpoint to outline his company strategy. He'd done it in the form of a 3D circut board.... he then turned round and said to me, bold as fucking brass, but obviously that's abit too sophisticated for your design so you'll have to re-draw it. COCK!
I think you either have to be honest with them and say it's shit but if you don't have a relationship with your client where you feel you can do that I would just go ahead and re-design it and not tell them, just show them and the explain. Some clients are so visually unaware they don't understand what you're trying to say without actually showing it to them. Spend a couple of hours and show them a rough idea of what you mean. It tends to work.
