When you look at games like Streets of Rage, the female characters are always slim and very flexible, wearing tight-fitting leather suits. Also they are not as powerful or strong as the male characters, but they are more agile and nimble.
This could be because most computer games originated from Japan, and most females in computer games (early ones at least) took on the Japanese manga style of slim and sexy. See images below.
