To his credit, he is working on his "Mediocre American Man" Trilogy which consisted of Anchorman, Talledaga Nights, and another as yet to be written tale.
The fact of the matter is, people are writing movies with him specifically in mind now as opposed to before when he was writing them (and part of the trilogy itself).
Blades of Glory, and Semi-Pro are just examples of others seeing a formula working and capitalizing.
I think Hot Rod was written with him in mind too, but went to Andy Samberg after he (Ferrell) declined and then or stopped working on it. Afterwards there were heavy re-writes but still.
