    this pretty much explains it:

there are 100s, if not 1000s of ways to restrain and incapacitate someone via physical force and yes it can be done without killing or rendering the person unconcious. I wasn't there, so I'm not sure why these 4 cops did what they did, but it was wrong. Everyone does shit that's wrong, but when the organization that is supposed to "serve and protect" (at least that's the ol' motto here in the US of A) keep getting media attention for maiming and killing, then yeah, it becomes a problem and people get bitter and begin to adopt a negative perception of cops. You never see the good that they actually do anymore and frankly it's quite sad. Me, personally, I don't care much for cops just because what I've been thru with them. Though it was fairly minor shit, being targeted, profiled and harassed from the age of 15-24 all for not doing anything wrong really left a feeling of helplessness and distrust with me for years; Now that I'm old and have a family, I pray that maybe these same cops that fucked with for so long will do their duty to protect what I love so much. It's a tangled we of politics and emotions and it's actually pretty fuckin ugly.
