I think Mexico is a team that struggles against physical football - that's what the US gives them. Mexico can match up well with some of the more skilled teams like a Brazil, Argentina, Spain, Portugal, Netherlands... but has trouble handling a team that relies more on strength than skill.
Conversely, the US can play those teams pretty evenly, but gets its ass kicked by teams with actual talent. I think in the future with players like Castillo, Guardado, Dos Santos, Esparza, Vela, Villaluz... Mexico can give the US and its sluggish play a lot of trouble.
