The Goonies is Astoria's claim to fame. It's a nice small town on the Oregon side of the mouth of the Columbia River.
PCH is a nice trip for part of the way, namely from South Oregon through the redwoods of NoCal down to SF.
If I were you, I'd go down the WA coast down to Astoria, get your Goonie on (and don't miss the huge cuolumn in Asoria, - amazing views with history!) Head west along the Columbia to Portland and stay a day.
Then head down to Eugene for a bit, then shoot over to the coast either at Eugene or Grant's Pass - you can't go wrong. Beautiful drive.
