this happened to me inadvertantly once.
i did a couple of things:
1) restarted (stupid, i know... but it worked)
2) i must have turned the lock on by accident by hitting cmd + home or cmd + option + home or something in the home/end/help/delete area.
//I don't know that's your problem and I didn't read through all the forum links posted - so sorry if thiat's already been suggested.
