    Geezus!
How quickly we forget. Black History month was the brain child of Carter G. Woodson. Not as an effort to segregate or create other divisions between the races, but to recognize/cronicle the contributions and achievements of Black Americans.
    Why?
Because until recently, the accomplishments by practically all non-whites in the US were oddly missing from the history books and daily publications. We have come a long way in our collective effort to clean up those "lines in the sand", but the disparities are still gargantuan.
I'm working on a project for an architectual firm which will cronicle the work of Booker T Washington and the construction of Tuskeegee Institute. The number of black architects and designers related to that project blew me away. I had no idea. The Tuskeegee
school might as well have been Wright's Taliesin school.

The point here is that without BHM, so much of this stuff would be lost. I do honestly hope that it will one day be considered "redundant".
    But until then...
