depends on what proggy you're usin'...
... if you're placing in Illy... PSD's should by default either automatically update upon saving... or will pop-up a notification that the psd has been resaved... you can also turn that off (which it may be already... so check your preferences cuz the option is in there)...
... InDesign... you can go through Preflight and force anything you just saved to update...
but yeah... all depends on the software you're importing the psd too...
