I used to use Fireworks for all web work (and flash layouts because it exports so well to Flash) but just forced myself to give it up because Photoshop is just so mainstream.
Unfortunately now more than ever is time to make the leap!
ps. I've worked with so many people like you're talking about in design agencies and non-corporate. Same idiots in all walks of life :)
