    i guess to sum up my feelings, if this film was released say 4 years ago, there would have been uproar.

    Government bans some "grey" areas of free speech and no one bats an eye lid. (I presume everyone was fine with this except me and rowan atkinson).

    Couple of years later, you're all watching a film laden with 'racist' jokes, and everything's cool and the gang.

    maybe it's because I didn't read the whole thread.

    Do you think there could ever be a muslim equivilent of Borat. ie a muslim comedian who pretends to be someone from a country that hates muslims. Would be pretty easy in america, not that those views need exposing in america.

    I remember the whole debate a year or so ago with comedians protesting against free speech laws affecting comedy.
    I wouldn't ever want people like alf garnett or jim davidson to be popular but there is a fine line with the whole satirical route as to how close you can get, I agree that borat walks that line
