itunes - copying files

    Why do you want to have the same audio track w/ different ID3 tag information on it? That seems a bit confusing to me, if you explain, maybe we can all figure out what are you trying to do...

    Like I said, I've ripped a a bunch of singles and I don't want to have duplicate files, but...

    If I just drag the song to a different playlist, the tag information cannot be changed, so as a simple example:

    I already have Pavement's CR, CR in iTunes. I've ripped the Gold Soundz single, but I don't want to have two copies of that track on my hard drive (one for CR, CR and one for Gold Soundz). If I drag the track from the LP, the playlist for the single will be sloppy/out of order because the track will display the LP information.

    I know a given album may only have a few singles, but when you multiple that by your entire library, it becomes quite relevant.

    I didn't think this was something that rare, but I guess I'm in the minority. :)
