if you want to duplicate an mp3, or *really* manage your music, turn off the itunes prefs to organize your library and work with the files on your drive.

(Oct 5 06, 20:34)That's what I do, I have an external FW drive where all my songs are, I can only play those songs if my computer is connected to that drive (of course) but it will copy all the songs, (from external drive and computer drive ) on my to my ipod.
But I guess this is not what are you looking for...
Why do you want to have the same audio track w/ different ID3 tag information on it? That seems a bit confusing to me, if you explain, maybe we can all figure out what are you trying to do...
