One thing with people who want to kill themselves is not necessarily to look for the mood they are in, although being happy is a good thing it isn't necessarily an indication of their mental health.
Their outlook on their life is the important bit. Outlook describes much more than if they are happy or sad - keep a close watch on her.
My sister-in-law has had depression for many years, and only in the last two has come out of it a lot.
Anyway - call that hotline - whatever the number :) I hope that things go well with your mum.
