    I know you CAN get decent quality out of AI, but the independence of resolution seems like a drawback to me, more than a bonus (especially for those just starting out). From some of the 3rd party artwork I've had to deal with that was designed in illustrator, it's obvious you need to know the technical ins-and-outs to get a quality product, because DTP style doesn't cut it.

    Cleaning up the output (of a poor quality file) ends up taking near as long as rebuilding in photoshop.

    I guess what it comes down to is I advocate people learning to build in photoshop, as it will get you thinking in pixels. once you know it, do whatever works for you.
