(Jul 13 06, 14:17)but i think those focused on ever higher bit depths and sample rates are a subset of what i would define as the audiophile, which is one who is simply obsessed with the reproduction of sound. i liken that subgroup to the weight weenies of the bicycle world, or those that sacrifice the feel of the ride in the name of reducing the weight to an absolute minimum. great reference monitors have that wow factor when you first lay ears upon them, but they're actually quite fatiguing for long periods of casual listening. among my engineer friends, the most sought after gear is loved for the musicality of it's flaws. anyway, i digress. you've got some good points, meeklo.
