Since I always chime in on these 2A thread I will. LOL
First: Do I like those sites, not really
Second: From my experience, most of my clients have never seen a 2A style site. So they usually go wow! Can we do that? And I alway advise against that trendy style that will date the site quickly. Let alone some UI issue. But please keep in mind, we have been seeing this everyday for 5 + years. It's old and trendy to us. but most people rarely see that style site, so it excites them. Hell I had a new client want a spinning Logo. Most clients want a site that looks good. And like they always say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. So you can fight them on what you think is good, or you can work with them.
