I am generally a very happy person, both at work and in life — but lately, my work schedule makes me feel as though I am missing out on more that I am willing to give up. Weeks blend one into the other, I don't have reliable nights off because I never know when I will have to be here until 8, etc. And, overall, I think my main frustration is the organizational ineptitude that I see with every small (albeit) wonderful company that I work for — I might just be tired of working for other people.

My new solution to this is to try it on my own — to become a freelancer, working with the company that I currently work for as well as taking on projects from friends and other compatriots that I generally have to turn down because my 9-7 work scheule doesn't permit participation. I am also lucky enough to have a wonderful friend who wants to do this with me; hence, we escape the possible loneliness of the independent's life...

It might be naive and idealistic (oh yes, I am! I happily confess), but I think the measure of working on my own projects, in my own time, is exactly the change I need. Plus, this allows for a lot more room to pursue other ventures and past times (dress shop! handbags! furniture building!) without entirely giving up on being a multimedia designer.

    (I hope...)
