    Depends on your budget.

    I just bought a Pentax *ist DL 6.1 Megapixels, my first SLR camera.
    It takes great pictures and the price was right. Of course other SLRs are the Canon Digital Rebel XT or the Nikon D20 or D50.
    The price range is $700-$1000.

    Then you have the consumer ones like the sony cybershot, canon powershot, or the nikon coolpix.
    Price rance $300-$500

    So it all depends on what you want to do and how much money you want to spend.
