    I've always understood that as long as you are not personally profiting from the distribution of someone else's music in your work, they can't sue. If you make no money, there is no money for them to claim that they helped you make...

    In motion design, it seems like everybody has a reel with unlicensed music. If you're lucky you have a friend who composes an original track, but because the work is for speculation, people use whatever they want.

    I'd say it's just kosher to get approval from the band or artist before you use their work. Artist to artist, it's just courtesy. You don't want to see some illustration or photo on someones non-profit flyers or something.

    Anybody else have input, I'd be interested to hear.
