Whats the current job market like over in New York at the moment?

Live in London with a full-time job as midweight web designer but thinking of moving to NYC (got US passport), my boyfriend might get visa to work there so thinking about going but i have no idea really what the job markets really like right now...

any advice appreciated.... also if you know good sites for looking for jobs there aside from krop obv... anything to get a better idea... FANKS

You probably already read about it, but the government-backed Start-up Britain is advising start-ups to use crowdsourcing. Like, linking directly to 99designs. And you thought this governnment couldn't get worst...

Employer rights over your designs Jan 7, 10, 10:54 a.m.

I guess this is usually something to negociate in your contract, but just wondering if anyone knows much about your rights over designs you do whilst employed by an agency?

The boss of my old agency contacted me today asking me to take down the names of the clients i mentioned in my portfolio site, saying it's confidential information that belongs to the company. Not a huge deal as it's quite old work anyway, but just wondering if by default a company owns the rights to all the work you do whilst you're employed by them, is this something you need to specify in your contract?

Be interested to hear people's experience on this.

Hiya, I'm going to NYC for a week next week.. I know there's a new type design collection at the MoMA so will be heading there and to the Guggenheim.. That's the extent of my list for now though.. Anything else on at the moment that's good?

Graphics or type wise, or just any nice things to see anyway... Like a bit of local knowledge so if you have any good stuff to do please share.

Quick question - as a freelancer (not a limited company), do you add VAT to your invoices to clients? First time I send my own invoice rather than going through an agency so not sure how it works?!

I'm looking for a really simple WP theme with just 1 page of news items displaying within a div, that isn't the homepage... might build it myself but if there's an existing theme would simplify the job... Anyone know one? The integration part of building a wp site takes me ages, so if anyone knows one (haven't found anything similar) would be helpful... Thanks

A question for WP designers Dec 12, 11, 1:47 p.m.

Been doing websites in WP recently, one designed/handcoded then integrated in WP, and 2-3 using themes that I reskinned to suit the client's brand.

Both ways seem to raise their own issues - technical issues for the first (issues in the back-end that need fixing after I've handed it over), or customising issues for the second (less freedom in how it looks / works).

I'm no expert so just curious to hear how other people go about it - do you find it easier, after a couple of websites, to build your own themes from scratch, or do you buy templates then customise them to suit?

I'm still undecided so interested to hear other peoples experience.. Ta :)
