Sorry if this sounds ignorant but got a simple wordpress question... if anyone with better knowledge than me can help would be super grateful....

I'm building a website based on a child of the starkers theme... currently my homepage is set to default, and displays the latest post...

I need it to display the latest post as well as a separate video that my client can update himself regularly, independently from anything else on that page...

Do i need to create a new page and insert a video widget into it that the client can update, or is there a simpler way of doing this directly in index.php? i was thinking i could create a widget area within the index.php page but not sure how to do that...

A question for WP designers Dec 12, 11, 1:47 p.m.

Been doing websites in WP recently, one designed/handcoded then integrated in WP, and 2-3 using themes that I reskinned to suit the client's brand.

Both ways seem to raise their own issues - technical issues for the first (issues in the back-end that need fixing after I've handed it over), or customising issues for the second (less freedom in how it looks / works).

I'm no expert so just curious to hear how other people go about it - do you find it easier, after a couple of websites, to build your own themes from scratch, or do you buy templates then customise them to suit?

I'm still undecided so interested to hear other peoples experience.. Ta :)

Doing a map that client wants fitted into single A5 page - TINY TEXT. Any favourite fonts for small size readability? I'm thinking Bell but was wondering if anyone has preferred choices.

Quick question - as a freelancer (not a limited company), do you add VAT to your invoices to clients? First time I send my own invoice rather than going through an agency so not sure how it works?!

I'm looking for a really simple WP theme with just 1 page of news items displaying within a div, that isn't the homepage... might build it myself but if there's an existing theme would simplify the job... Hiya, I'm going to NYC for a week next week.. I know there's a new type design collection at the MoMA so will be heading there and to the Guggenheim.. That's the extent of my list for now though.. Anything else on at the moment that's good?

Graphics or type wise, or just any nice things to see anyway... Like a bit of local knowledge so if you have any good stuff to do please share.

Hiya, after 5 years working in-house/in an agency I'm looking at contracting or going freelance.

For people who've already been there, did you set up your own company to pay tax through, go through an umbrella company? I assume before you try get freelance or contract work through an agency you need to sort out a tax setup like that, agencies don't do your PAYE for you do they...? Any companies you can recommend..?
