Album Cover Art Aug 26, 08, 10 p.m.
I'm not seeing a thread here via search, so I'm going to start one. Album cover art is probably what first gave me the idea to pursue graphic design. I just found this at Amazon while checking on an order:
(Quantic) Never heard of them, but I love the design.
Celtics May 28, 08, 7:42 p.m.
Anyone enjoying their cool breeze performance over Detroit right now as much as I am?
Media Cheerleading Aug 30, 08, 7:23 p.m.
Anybody see this yesterday? I caught it on O'Reilly.
I understand that O'Reilly makes smoke shoot out of the ears of a bunch of you guys, but try to put that aside for a minute. Isn't this outrageous? What if Fox News had a breaking news banner for Obama's VP announcement reading "Will Biden bring knowledge that there are only 50 states to Democratic ticket?"
Jazz Covers Dec 5, 08, 9:08 p.m.
I was finishing my Christmas shopping (yes!) after work today and I picked up another Taschen beauty: http://www.taschen.com/pages/en/…
Some awesome stuff in it. Some crappy tripe too, but definitely worth getting. Very inspirational.
Other Design Forums Jul 3, 08, 12:37 p.m.
Besides QBN, what other online design forums do you guys like to hang out at?
Dubious Branding Decisions Jan 22, 10, 4:16 p.m.
"Defier" misspelled, spermatozoa as logo and stylized logotype, and BALListic as the apparent flagship product. http://gravitydefyer.com/GDefy-S…
Processing Jul 26, 08, 10:58 a.m.
I've finally decided to dive into processing, despite my historical aversion to mathematical thinking and programming. I ordered the Processing manual from Amazon, which appears to be very thorough and has been received well by the design community. I look at some of the beautiful compositions made with this software, and I'm like, "This pretty much looks like the future of design," so I want to be a part of it. It looks ideal for the dual purpose of design: i.e., marrying information to visual enjoyment. It seems to have earned a reputation for bridging the programming/aesthetic gap.
I'm wondering what designers' impressions are of this cool new technology, especially those of you who, like me, have classically struggled with code.
Photoshop Error Aug 20, 08, 10:18 a.m.
For the last day and-a-half Photoshop has been giving me a "Could not complete your request because of a program error." dialog every time I fire it up. In fact, right now my Ps icon is bouncing in my dock, even though I don't have anything open in Photoshop. Sometimes it slows down what I'm doing and sometimes it crashes Ps.
Anyone else ever experience this? Any ideas for a fix? I'd rather not reinstall if I don't have to.
What's Wrong With This Picture? Aug 11, 08, 7:27 p.m.
Anyone know? http://ap.google.com/article/ALe…
Obama, a Democratic senator from Illinois, also urged a multinational response but added that U.N. Security Council should play a major role in helping end the crisis. He said the Security Council should pass a resolution calling for an immediate end to the violence, and urged a U.N. mediator to join French and Finnish foreign ministers in Georgia to try to end the fighting.
"The U.N. must stand up for the sovereignty of its members and peace in the world," Obama told reporters during his weeklong vacation in Hawaii.
Goodwill at Christmas Dec 10, 08, 7:37 p.m.
Have you guys been giving to any nice charities for Christmas? During the rest of the year I give to animal charities and the WWF, but I do as much as I can to help spread the Christmas spirit during this season. Here's my list so far:
Bought three books (animals and science) for kids at our local Shriners hospital.
Sent five pounds of coffee to our troops in Iraq and/or Afghanistan.
Gave a twenty spot to Salvation Army at the grocery store last night (first time I ever did that and it really good).
Did some design work for the big yearly Christmas event benefitting our local Boys and Girls Club (this event raised $40,000 last year!).
My mother volunteers for the Church's soup kitchen every year, and if I have the time, I might do it with her this year.
One thing I love about Christmas is that it so often seems to bring out more goodwill and generosity of spirit than we see during the rest of the year. Actually, that's probably what I like the most.
Adobe Illustrator Photorealism Oct 18, 08, 11:26 p.m.
I'm looking for some amazing, or even just plain decent, photorealistic artwork done with Adobe Illustrator with which to dazzle my students (their next assignment will be a photorealistic rendering). It'll be for an on-screen presentation, so 72 dpi is fine (preferred, actually, maybe about 550 px wide or thereabouts). I've already got a bunch of Yukio Miyamoto's stuff, and rather than just Google for additional artists, I wanted to ask you guys who you like. I'm looking to inspire and fire imaginations, so show me the goods. (No pictures of Jnr's Mom, though – way too obvious.)
The New (New) Typography May 29, 08, 4:02 p.m.
I love the recent developments in the marriage of type and motion graphics, and Charlie Company's work for TruTV is definitely pretty outstanding in the field. http://www.charlieco.tv/charliec…
DJ Event Poster Critique Jul 18, 08, 12:21 p.m.
Some constructive criticism, please? This is just the basic layout – not really finalized, kerned, etc. Thanks!
Online Business Card Printing Jun 28, 08, 5:06 p.m.
I'm looking for an online printshop to do my business cards. I'm looking for double-sided, black ink only, on a nice brown/tan matte FSC stock (14 pt. would be nice). I'm having a hard time, however, finding a reasonably priced (e.g. 250–500 for $60 maybe) option, and it also appears to be difficult to find plain brown stock.
Does anyone here have any experience with an online vendor who can provide that sort of stock (recycled would be, of course, nice as well) at a decent price?
Illustrator Layer Count May 18, 09, 3:20 a.m.
Anyone know if there's a function in Adobe Illustrator to tell you how many layers/sublayers you have in a given document? I've been working on a composition that has a huge number of objects (all very similar – think repetition) on one layer, and it occurred to me out of curiosity that there might be a way to count.
Thanks, goofballs. :-)
