Getting a book published

Anyone have any pointers or tips on getting a book published? ... particularly a children's book? The story and illustrations are in the rough stages but ready to reviewed, revised and finalized, but where do you go from this point; what's the proper procedure? I hear getting an agent is key, but how do you choose a good one. My wife already began to use some bullshit agency that turned out to be nothing but a scam. I guess we're looking for reputable agent/agency that can offer clear insight and direction to move forward through the necessary steps to get this damn thing published. I know getting distributed on a national level can be difficult if not impossible, but wifey would like to put forth the best effort in the correct way. Any tips, suggestions or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

No QBN Sessions '09 eh?

I'm stepping forward to arrange Sessions 2010. I'll bring in affordable talent such a janne, e-pill, jaline and theblueone. 2 cases of pabst and a dime bag should cover the expenses. We'll hold the convention in a central location, like at a motel 6 in kansas, down the street from where v3 lives.

another ecommerce question

I'm putting together a small site for a Wine-of-the-Month membership club that requires ecommerce. When I was discussing the scope of the job with the client, I told them that I was not experienced with ecommerce and that I might need to outsource that portion of the job. Well, they said it would be "really simple and they know that there are simple shopping carts that can be plugged in"... I suggested PayPal, but they wanted something that would integrate well enough to still have feel like they were still on the original site throughout the process. So I did a bit of research and settled with FoxyCart. Well, now there are options that the consumer needs to pick during the checkout process:

• Wine Preference: "Red Only" or "Red and White"
• What month to start the membership
• Ship to: "Myself" or "Give a Gift" or "Pickup from restaurant"

I did a little reading through the FoxyCart and it started getting into javascripting for radio buttons and such, but I'm just not that saavy with this... are there any fairly simple solutions out there that provide more flexibility than FoxyCart when it comes to selecting options for checkout, but that are still easy to integrate?

hourly rate

WTF, I just found out that the ad agency I work for is charging clients $100/hr for creative/design work. No wonder why we're tanking and salaries have been cut. I charge that rate (and more depending on job) on my freelance jobs out of my fuckin' 10x10 lil office at home.

"upscale" newsletter

we've been told to re-design a newsletter to make it "upscale". Mind you, the marketing department will not be "upscale-ing" their shitty content. Anyone have any examples or links of classy, upscale newsletters?

Whopper Virgins

I see BlueJam posted this yesterday, but I just wanted to post again because I just saw it. The approach seems to be a feel-good documentary of sorts on exposing the hamburger (in this case, primarily the Whopper) to the world... to people who have never eaten hamburgers. Of course, a majority of people seem to like it. What they don't know is that they're also being exposed to preservatives and possibly hormone treated meats and other things they've never heard of. My (and other people's) dislike for this will most likely only fuel the exposure for this campaign, but I just thought I'd let you know that I felt like throwing up while watching this.

I'm using IE...

on a Dell at my mother-in-law's house. This is far from my nightly iMac/QBN session in my pimped out home office while eating organic chips and salsa. I'd like to punch whoever says "I'm a PC"... especially those little African kids kicking that crappy soccer ball around in the dirt.

logo/identity style guides

I'm looking for some great examples of logo/identity style guides. I remember seeing some great links on here years ago, but I can't seem to find them in my bookmarks any more. There was one site in particular that had hundreds of examples of corporate identity style guides. I'd appreciate any resources you can cough up.
