This pertains to design and creativity in general.

Interestingly, there were no talks about how Christian and Judaic Bibles are also remakes, retold, and rehashed stories. Once told to enslaved Jews of the ancient Egyptians. The Bible was nothing new but an upgraded story and script "borrowed" from other religions of the past. Yet this remake succeeds many other remake achievements to date as "the greatest remake ever told."

    • even more than that, all borrowed from pagan idols! and on and on and on and ondoesnotexist1/2

Not remakes, but reinterpretations are the next big "ting":

    http://www.beck.com/

"In the wake of Modern Guilt and The Information, Beck’s latest album comes in an almost-forgotten form—twenty songs existing only as individual pieces of sheet music, never before released or recorded. Complete with full-color, heyday-of- home-play-inspired art for each song and a lavishly produced hardcover carrying case (and, when necessary, ukelele notation), the Song Reader is an experiment in what an album can be at the end of 2012—an alternative that enlists the listener in the tone of every track, and that’s as visually absorbing as a dozen gatefold LPs put together."

This is an exciting project, to say the least...

Retelling is a trend (aka tradition), not an achievement.

I'm not quite seeing the connection between centuries of folklore and pointlessly similar remakes within the same industry and within less than a generation. Shame the article didn't quite deliver what the title promised.

It *was* one of our greatest achievements, but then copyright lawyers were born. Today's equivalent of retelling a story around the campfire is called piracy or infringement.
