So godaddy is pushing .co?
Why would someone want a .co instead of a .com?

Are the ads just a scam to make everyone buy a .co if they already own the .com?

no one, .com or nothing

.co is fine... you can set the country target in webmaster tools

I've done a few .co's before.
If your prepared to repeat yourself every time you tell someone the address go for it. ".co.what?"

Why would someone would use godaddy is the bigger question.

^ agreed they buy domains out from under you and bank them

My favorite domain registrar at the moment: http://hover.com
Good prices, no upsells, and private registration included in the price. Just switched all of my domains away from Network Solutions finally. Was sick of paying upwards of $30/year for renewal. What a ripoff!

Godaddy is cheap. If you're paying by the year, you're wasting money. I own some domains until 2022 and by no means did I pay anywhere near $30/year.
I could care less about all their other offers. I use them as a domain registrar only.
Anyone complaining about losing domains isn't paying their bills. It's that simple really.

.co is quicker to type than .com

Is any site cheaper than godaddy? With a coupon code you can get a .com for like $4 a year and pay for the hosting elsewhere.

Those are colombian, so if their internet authority allows to sell them without being related to colombian businesses then it's fine.
Other country domains have strict rules about that.

.co is the domain given by the ICANN to Colombia.
In the year 2009 the colombian gov. gave the administrative rights to a private company for 10 years, this is the official site of it:

People want them for URL shortening.
Twitter, for example:
