Do yourself a favour and avoid the touristy places. I am not talking about the bigger cities here but the small towns and villages in the countryside. If a village is reknown for being a tourist attraction (i.e. it appears in your tourist guide) stay the fuck out. You’ll find all flair is gone and all that is left are noisy pedestrian areas with dozens of shops all selling the same cheap trash. The trick is to stay in one of the villages nearby wich will be equally beautiful but not overcrowded.
Also, Europe might seem relatively small seen from the US but there is no way you can rush through... I planned a trip through Spain AND Portugal once on the map and found myself spending more time on buses and trains hopping from city to city than actually enjoying the places... concentrate on one or two regions. Paris and then south of Frace or the France Alps sounds great btw

    • Yes, don't plan an "european trip" unless you'll be staying 3 months.ORAZAL
