I never read the book, nor was I interested in doing so.
I haven't seen the japanese version yet, and I only watched Hunger Games because it was free.I thought it was going to be kids fighting on a jungle because they were starving and they needed to each each other, it turned out to be some sort of 'new school' version of Running Man.
I liked it overall, I now want to see the japanese version which I'm told is a bit more dark.
If you don't put this movie on a pedestal (it was never meant to be on one) and you watch it, you will have a good time, if you start thinking that is some sort of cinematic classic deserving the prestige that some of the ones included on the Criterion Collection, then of course you will hate it, but my question to you is, why did you ever thought it belonged there?
Put it on the category of 'cool movies to watch on dvd' and you won't be disappointed.
Also, there are no vampires in it.
