tbh, I wouldnt' really worry about that - nothing wrong with having standardisation where a UI's concerned.
As an aside though, I recently played around with the PolyLine functionality in GMaps, using it to create a large cross that indicated the client's position, then stretching out a few hundred kilometres, to encompass the presumed range of their clientele.
Quite handy, those PolyLines..
- Worked better in terms of zooming out than the standard-sized marker PNG, which doesn't scale.detritus
