  12 pages of information on 'Micro Four Thirds' cameras, which are essentially DSLR quality in a smaller package.

  But before any of that, you have to ask yourself the question do you want an all in one compact OR do you want a camera smaller than your DSLR with interchangeable lenses.

  I have a GF1 and a few lenses, and i love it. but in bright light i do think it would be nice to have something like the g12 / s95 / lx5, because its much more lightweight, compact and of course, you don't need additional lenses.

  However the Micro Four Thirds cameras will offer better high iso and sharper, more croppable pics. and naturally with a big sensor more flexibility in processing RAW later.

  Be sure to look at the Sony Nex 3 and Nex 5 (the difference being the nex 5 has better video). The nex cameras have a bigger sensor than micro four thirds, as they use A-psc sensors. Sony sensors generally speaking are excellent, and the one used in the nex is indeed excellent. You will get better high iso out of the nex compared to micro four thirds, but with the nex cameras you have a smaller len selection and the sony kit lenses are a tiny bit softer than the micro four thirds ones - probably only noticeable when pixel peeping.

  Also not the sensor sizes between micro four thirds and the Nex series - and consequently crop factor differences, which will result in different FOV with lenses of the same focal length. (you probably know all this crap, but its worth mentioning)

  m43 sensor crop factor is 2x
  nex apsc sensor crop factor is 1.6
