the problem with php is that it's a really messy language and encourages bad habits. if you want a future in programming, i would recommend learning something like python as your first language. if you just want to hack away at some php, one of the learning php books from oreilly.

    • i dont agree , php is pretty cool as it has similar behavior to the C language, Python syntax is ridiculousspraycan1/19
      and python bindings suckspraycan2/19
hmm, where to start, references working differently depending on version, magic quotes, unpredictable comparison operators, no unicode, etc..acescence3/19
.. operators, completely dumb character set support, etc..acescence4/19
my point is if you want to be a PROGRAMMER, meaning learn to program which allows you to pick up ANY language, learn pythonacescence5/19
      python!acescence6/19
no way man, if you want to be a programmer pick up any language : C/C++spraycan7/19
openGL python bindings ? ridiculous, OpenGL and C not bindings, native. awesomespraycan8/19
well, that's way more of an investment because it's more low-level, if you want to just write stuff for web.acescence9/19
of course, C has it's own frustrating idiosyncrasies as well.acescence10/19
Python is just the actually "in the air" programming language, i would not even call it a programming language is syntax is ridiculous and stupidly "personified"spraycan11/19
..language is syntax is ridiculous and stupidly "personified"spraycan12/19
yes ok for the web stuff, cheers!spraycan13/19
it's thought out and makes sense for someone learning how to program. php is a hack job from "personal home pages" that grew organically.acescence14/19
these notes are so frustratingly short! haha. ok, back to workacescence15/19
yes, lol. but i do like PHP , personally it's waht introduced me to C.spraycan16/19
I like it too, it gets the job done. i guess i'm speaking less of usefulness and more of "thinking like a programmer"acescence17/19
.. which is knowledge that works for any language.acescence18/19
      ok, really back to work.acescence19/19
