You guys are all hilarious, and I'll admit my first instinct was group sex as well, but in all seriousness this is a valid inquiry. I've worked on a few teams and we've benefitted immensely from doing "fun stuff" together. In the corporate environment we refer to these activities as "team building exercises." Whatever it is, they are good. Here are two that are very different from each other, but that stand out for different reasons.
1. Miniature golf. You may think that this is just having fun, but it brings out anyone's true colors. Excitement and fun, then frustration and pure rage. You're forced to stumble through over an hour of this shit with your team and you'll know each other better afterwards. If all goes well, you get beers together after.
2. Creative retreat. Take a day or two away from work, as a team, to do something creative that is completely unrestricted and not client related. We simply grabbed all of our cameras and trooped around NYC for a couple of days taking pictures of whatever inspired us. We wrote in journals, sketched, shopped for interesting packaging at candy shops and picked up anything interesting. We rented out a floor of a museum and compiled our collections into pages for a book that we aim to have printed. The projects get personal fast, and everyone's involved, so you get to know each other better. If all goes well, you get beers together after.
- Miniature golf is great for families, and the retreat is like childhood arts n' crafts timemonospaced
